The role
Key position responsibilities
- Supervise transfer, pull, sexing, vaccination, and dispatch to branch and farm customers.
- Monitor setter/hatcher temperatures, humidity, and turning; act on alarms immediately.
- Record hatch of fertile, cull rates, and chick quality; investigate drops with the Hatchery Manager.
- Enforce shower-in, PPE, and visitor rules without exception.
- Lead and coach hatchery attendants; manage leave so pull days are fully staffed.
- Coordinate egg intake from breeding farms and chick delivery with logistics.
- Keep the hatchery audit-ready for customers, UNBS, and internal QA.
The role
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Diploma or degree in poultry, animal production, or a related agricultural science.
- At least 3 years in a commercial hatchery, including one year supervising a shift.
- Working knowledge of incubation, chick grading, and basic vaccination.
- Willing to work nights, weekends, and public holidays on a hatch calendar.
- Calm under time pressure on pull days.
