What you'll do

Key position responsibilities

  • Plan and monitor broiler flock production by designing production plans and ensuring effective flock production in line with set plans and schedules.
  • Develop vaccination programmes per breed, regularly review them for adherence, and develop amendments where needed.
  • Ensure flock health and biosecurity through established guidelines, support farm staff in carrying out related tasks, and participate in monitoring general flock health.
  • Train and develop staff by identifying training needs and training staff in vaccination methods, feeding, and other poultry-related skills.
  • Manage performance by ensuring adherence to the set performance management system, reviewing staff appraisal records, and devising mechanisms to improve staff performance.
  • Ensure effective nutrition review and monitoring and proper feeding of the flock.
  • Participate in and provide technical support for disease diagnosis within the flock.
  • Review and analyse laboratory results in collaboration with veterinary laboratory services and participate in developing appropriate mechanisms based on the results.

  • Take responsibility and accountability for feed usage to maximize efficiencies, eggs, and bird stock at the farm, and account for any stock shortfalls weekly, monthly, or at the end of each cycle for commercial broilers.
  • Carry out periodic stock takes and reconciliations in the presence of farm administrators to ensure no variances are reflected at any time.
  • Immediately report any suspicious missing stock.
  • Ensure there is always adequate feed at the farms.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and review the overall performance of the various poultry farms.
  • Prepare reports indicating the performance of all the farms on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Provide support in the development, review, and implementation of farm policies and procedures.
  • Carry out any other tasks as assigned by management.

  • Diploma in Agriculture, Animal Health and Production, Animal Husbandry, Animal Production and Management, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years in poultry production and farming.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of poultry production.
  • Ability to design production programs, targets, and strategies.
  • Ability to monitor flock health.
  • Knowledge and ability to implement SOPs.
  • Ability to use and maintain basic poultry equipment.
